Cheers! Why a Pusser's Painkiller is Perfect for Celebrating Black Tot Day

Calling all rum lovers and soon to be history buffs! July 31st aka Black Tot Day is just around the corner. If you needed an excuse to grab a drink, here it is.

A Pusser's Painkiller is the drink to have to commemorate the historical Black Tot Day. Here you'll learn about the importance of July 31st, how the Pusser's Painkiller cocktail came to be, and how to make the drink just in time to celebrate!

The History of Black Tot Day

This July 31st, it will be the 50th anniversary of Black Tot Day. For nearly 3 centuries, British Royal Navy sailors have been given a ration, or a tot, of rum every day. They were given more on days where they had won battles to celebrate their victory.

Rum was the chosen drink because of the molasses within the liquor so it was best for the long days they'd have at sea. Unfortunately, on July 31st, 1970, more than 300 years of tradition had come to an end. Thus, the name, Black Tot Day was born.

It is in honor of the very last day navy sailors had their ration of rum given to them at sea.

Pusser's Rum

painkillerSo why is Pusser's rum the best and only rum to celebrate this historical event? It's because it's the same rum that was being enjoyed by the sailors at sea. The Purser is the one who was handing out the tots of rum, hence the name, Pusser's.

In 1979, almost a decade later, Charles Tobias, a veteran earned the rights to Pusser's rum and began selling it in the 1980s. Pusser's Rum is essential to making the perfect Pusser's Painkiller to honor Black Tot Day!

Pusser's Rum is made with great care to ensure that it is high quality for all the concoctions you want to make.
