How to Upgrade Your Rum and Coke

Rum and Coke, one of the best classic cocktails, originated in Cuba. Reportedly, it evolved from another drink that combined Coke, rum, and fresh lime juice. This was called the Cuba Libre.

The Rum and Coke simply removes the splash of lime and simplifies the cocktail to what you see most often. But you may be feeling bored of drinking plain old Rum and Coke.

If so, read on! This article will describe some different ways you can upgrade your Rum and Coke.

Lime

If you add lime to your Rum and Coke, you'll experience an excellent drink, the Cube Libre. The sourness of the lime juice softens the sweetness of the Coke. It also boosts the drink's overall acidity

Before you add the coke, squeeze a fresh lime directly into the glass. Then fill the rest of the glass with Coke. You're now free to drink your drink.

Multiple Rums

Sometimes the best rum pairings are other rums. Try splitting the rum part of a Rum and Coke between two or even three different rums. Doing so will add more flavor and complexity to your drink.

It's especially a good idea to pair a lighter rum with a darker one. This will result in a drink that is light, vibrant, and fruity.

Ratios

You may find your drink more satisfying if you change its rum to coke ratio. Older recipes for Rum and Coke state that one should mix 1 part rum to 2 parts coke. But some have argued that a 1 to 3 ratio is better these days because people are used to sweeter drinks.

But everyone has different tastes. You may like things sweeter or more bitter. Try to play around a bit and see which ratio suits you the best.

Cokes

Yes, there is more than one type of coke in the world. The kind that most Americans know may not be the best for a Rum and Coke. It's mostly corn syrup and may make a Rum and Coke taste unnaturally sweet and acidic.

Try using a craft cola instead. These often use more natural ingredients and flavorings. They also use more wholesome sweeteners like honey or cane sugar.

Rums

There are also a wide variety of rums you can use for your Rum and Coke. General category-wise, you have four types of rum: gold, white, dark, and spiced. Each of these brings something different to the final taste.

There are also hundreds of rum distilleries all over the world. Each distillery's rum will taste different than that of another. It may take some time for you to find a favorite.

But we believe our rum can be your favorite right away.

Our Rum and Coke

So ask a bartender to add these additions to your Rum and Coke the next time you stop by a bar. You can also just make these tasty cocktails at home.

If you do, add one of our rums to your drink. Not only are our rums award-winning, but they also contain no artificial flavoring or coloring.
