A Glass a Day Keeps the Doctor Away! The Health Benefits of Rum

The Health Benefits of Rum

Here's something you can "cheers" over! Pour yourself a glass of Pusser's Rum and read about the benefits of rum.

Rum has been used for thousands of years as a comfort drink. Even today, drinking like a pirate (but maybe a little less) can actually help you live longer!

What are the health benefits of rum, you ask? We'll name a few major health benefits below. Pour yourself a glass and read on!

Health Benefits of Rum: Nutritional Value

While rum might not be the breakfast of champions, it does have nutritional value. You might be surprised to find some of the same vitamins you'd get from fruits and vegetables!

The benefits of rum for your health include a number of vitamins and minerals from each serving. Bottled rum contains a bit of copper, iron, Vitamin B1, manganese, and potassium. These vitamins and minerals remain after the distilling process.

Rum Fits A Number of Diets

If you're on a low-carb or no-carb diet, you'll be pleased to know that rum has absolutely no carbohydrates. The drink is also fat-free. Compare that to a slice of pizza with both carbs and fats in each serving!

If you suffer from high cholesterol, you are limited in what you can safely eat. Rum can help fight artery blockage, leading to a lower risk of heart attacks and heart disease. Drinking rum can also help to increase good cholesterol levels in your body.

Small Doses Help Bones and Muscles

Moderate consumption of rum helps increase mineral density in your bones. Over time, bone density can be harder to maintain, increasing the likelihood of fractures and breakages. Rum can also alleviate some symptoms of arthritis.

Bone and muscle health go hand-in-hand, as muscles help support your bones as you move around. Small amounts of rum can ease muscle pain and tension. Just avoid large amounts, as they can result in a bigger pain (literally) the next day.

Rum Helps Fight the Common Cold

What exactly are the health benefits of spiced rum? Rum has serious antibacterial properties.

If you have a cold, your body has to fight off bad bacteria. Antibacterial drinks help to do just that (and keep scurvy away, too).

A small dose of rum can help relieve a sore throat, one of the most common symptoms of a cold. Try a tablespoon in the morning and one in the evening to treat common colds.

Helps Prevent Numerous Diseases

Rum can help prevent mental diseases like dementia and Alzheimer's, both of which are difficult to treat. About an ounce a day can help decrease your risk.

This one is going to blow your mind. One of the biggest health benefits of drinking rum: a lower risk for certain cancers! Drinking rum in moderation can cut your risk for getting kidney cancer almost in half!

Raise a Glass to Good Health

There are many health benefits of rum. Whether you drink for taste or for better health- that's up to you!
