NEW Sea Monsters: Delving Into The Deep Myth Exhibit at Maritime Museum Of San Diego is set to open Summer 2022

The Maritime Museum of San Diego in California is set to open a new educational, entertaining, and interactive Sea Monsters Exhibit on Memorial Day weekend of 2022. The exhibit will be included in General Admission Museum tickets, serving as the "community memory of seafaring experience by collecting, preserving, and presenting our rich maritime heritage and historic connections with the Pacific world."

The Sea Monsters: Delving Into the Deep Myth Exhibit opens to the public Saturday, May 28, 2022 to take visitors on a journey through the end of the 19th Century, when a a daring world-exploring family boarded the Star of India for an expedition to investigate the existence of Sea Monsters in various parts of the world.

Wandering into deep hold of the Star, visitors will be greeted by sea monsters real and imaginary, inviting an aspect of human interaction with the unknown and the ongoing quest for knowledge of those monsters of the deep ocean. Visitors will have the opportunity to explore evidence of deep sea monster myths and a series of cultural projections that express humanity’s innermost fears, our search for answers, and the thrill of discovery that ultimately bring Sea Monsters to life for everyone…both real or imagined.

Join us at this all new Sea Monsters: Delving Into The Deep Myth Exhibit, sponsored by Pusser's Rum, that includes sea monsters real and imagined, from skeletal aquatic dinosaur replicas, to marine biological specimens, historic zoological hands-on immersive activities, and the nineteenth century Star of India.

Delve Into The Myths at Opening Events

This all new exhibit will feature a Sea Monster board of investigators who will identify the various sea monster sightings around the globe and provide visitors with a global view of cultural legends and primary documents of their impact on those communities through newspaper clippings, stories, and first-hand accounts. 

Grand Opening activities will begin on Saturday, May 28, 2022 at the the Maritime Museum of San Diego from 12:00 to 4:00 p.m. Visitors will have the opportunity to participate in a Sea Monster costume parade, storytelling, live music and kid-friendly activities.

On July 22, 2022, the Maritime Museum of San Diego will host the Sea Monster Saloon sponsored by Pusser’s Rum, for adults 21+ only to include a self-serve bar, sea inspired appetizers, and live music aboard the Star of India. Tickets and more information will be posted at sdmaritime.org at the start of 2022.
