Fireworks: 3 Surprisingly Simple Flaming Cocktails

flaming cocktail

All hands on deck. There are new orders in from the admiralty at Pussers rum. "Since the days of wooden ships and iron men", Pussers rum has been warming the souls of sailors. Now, this historic liquor is available to all.

However, the winter season is coming. The warmth from the flavor alone is not enough to fend off that cold air that bites to the bone.

As this is the case, a new cocktail is needed to heat things up. Keep reading to discover three recipes for flaming cocktails that use Pussers rum.

History of Pussers Rum

Pussers has a deep woven history with the sea. Coined as the "original Navy rum", Pussers gets its name from the Royal Navy sailors calling for their rum ration from the pursers of the ship. The slang later developed "purser" to "Pussers".

Since then, Pussers has developed into a phenomenon that honors history and tradition.

So, without further ado, let's talk about the rum cocktails that will burn like the lanterns on the mastheads of the Royal Navy.

1. Flaming Dr. Pepper

The Flaming Dr. Pepper is a crowd-pleaser. Unlike other shots that can go down like a bag of nails, this drink mimics the exact flavor of its namesake. This drink requires a pint glass and a shot glass.

  • 3/4 oz Amaretto
  • 1/4 oz Pussers Gunpowder Proof Rum
  • 1/2 Pint of beer

Fill a pint glass halfway full with beer. In a shot glass, add the amaretto. Top the rest of the shot glass with Gunpowder Proof.  Ignite the shot glass with a lighter. After a few seconds, extinguish the flame. Drop the shot glass into the pint and shoot it.

2. Bailey's Comet

The Bailey's Comet is a strong cocktail, but the presentation and the pageantry involved is sure to dazzle. Furthermore, the butterscotch elements make it perfect for the holiday flavors.

  • 1.5 oz Bailey Irish Creme liqueur
  • 1.5 oz butterscotch schnapps
  • 3/4 oz Goldschläger
  • Pussers Rum
  • Cinnamon

Shake the first three ingredients with ice. Strain concoction into a cocktail glass. Float the Pussers rum on top and light. Dash the cinnamon into the flames and watch them sparkle.

3. Navy Grog With Fire

Very much in the vein of Pussers theme, this cocktail, featuring a fleet of different rum, is fun. The addition of the warming flame will keep any sailor from saying "shiver me timbers"

  • 1 oz white rum
  • 1 oz demerara rum
  • 1 oz Pusser Gunpowder Proof rum
  • 3/4 oz lime juice
  • 3/4 oz grapefruit juice
  • 1 oz honey simple syrup
  • club soda

Combine all ingredients except the soda in a cocktail mixer. Shake with ice and strain into a coupe glass. Add the soda to near full. Top the drink with a floater of Pussers Gunpowder Proof Rum. Light the drink up.
