A Toast to Tradition: The History of Pusser's Rum
The Origins of Pusser's Rum
In the 17th century, sailors were granted a daily ration of rum, known as the "tot." This provision not only served as a source of sustenance but also as a symbol of camaraderie among seafarers. Every day, the Purser would distribute the daily rum ration to sailors. The purser was commonly referred to as the "Pusser," creating the name for the brand today. The daily tot was discontinued in 1970, creating the dreaded Black Tot Day.
the Admiralty Blend
Fast forward to the 20th century, where Charles Tobias set out on a quest to revive the authentic blend of rum once enjoyed by British sailors. Charles worked to convince the British Admiralty to share the blending formula of their rum, and requested permission to bottle and sell the rum commercially. After talking to all the right people, he was given the recipe and all the permission he needed. He created Pusser's Rum, still known to this day as the Admiralty's Blend.
The Essence of Pusser's Rum
At the core of Pusser's Rum lies the history and authenticity of the Royal British Navy. From the selection of premium Caribbean rums to the blending process that captures the essence of the sea, Pusser's Rum provides an unmistakable blend of classic Demerara sugar, molasses, dried fruits, island spices, and caramel.
