Mai Tai made with Pusser’s Rum
The classic Mai Tai (“Very Good”!) is an unforgettable cocktail, an icy dark, flavorful rum and fresh lime juice drink with a subtle hint of oranges and almonds and a sprig of fresh mint for garnish. The Mai Tai may be Polynesian in name, but it’s American in origin, created in 1944, by a legendary California restaurateur, the late Vic Bergeron of Trader Vic’s fame.
1-1/2 oz Pusser’s Rum
1-1/2 oz Gold Rum
½ oz orange curacao
¼ oz sugar syrup
¼ oz Orgeat Syrup or Almond Liqueur
Cut lime in half; squeeze juice over a double old fashioned glass filled with crushed ice; save one spent shell. Add remaining ingredients and enough crushed ice to fill the glass and shake. Decorate with spent lime shell, a sprig of mint and a fruit stick.
