Meet Pusser’s Rum Bartender on Deck Christopher Bellofatto
Tell me about yourself. What’s your background, and how did you end up as a bartender?
I started working in the service industry as a busser when I was 16 years old. There was a bartender at the restaurant who was like a mom to everyone there. Watching her made me want to bartend. She always looked like she was having so much fun mixing drinks and talking to guests. As soon as I turned 21, I was able to jump behind the bar at the restaurant I was working at, and I have been bartending ever since.
What’s your favorite rum drink?
There’s a drink I came across recently called the Jet Pilot.
Christopher’s Jet Pilot
2 oz Cachaca Prata
1/2 oz Lemon juice
1/2 oz Fallernum
1/2 oz Cinnamon syrup
½ oz Grapefruit juice
Float of Pusser’s Rum
What is your personal connection to rum? Why choose it over another spirit?
To be honest, my personal connection with rum is rather new. I have became a lot more aware of all the different types of rum since I started tending bar at The Golden Tiki. In the past 8 months, I’ve learned a lot from working there as well as some reading on my own. I never realized the vast differences there can be in rums, nor was I aware of how intertwined the history of America and the story of rum is.
What do you think the future holds for the rum industry?
I think there was a bright future for the rum industry, especially with the resurgence of Polynesian Pop and Tiki Culture in the last few years.
Where does your cocktail inspiration come from?
Inspiration can come from anywhere. From movies, classic cocktail recipes, and music, to even a special person. One of my favorite things is seeing the smile on a guest after taking a sip of a recipe that I created.
Any special talents or interests?
I really enjoy history and have been diving deep into the history of spirits and cocktails the past few years. Human history and the history of alcohol are inseparable.
How can people learn more about you?
