PUSSER’S® Bar in Munich celebrated its 40th anniversary in 2014! The owner and driving force behind the now infamous institution is Bill Deck who has become a living legend among European barmen and mixologists. Bill, a former U.S. Air Force reporter, chose Munich as his domicile. There he opened the first cocktail bar outside a hotel which was a sensation at the time. He called it Harry’s New York Bar and renamed it PUSSER’S® in 1993. For the past 10 years, he has been joined by his talented son, David, who Bill says “shall be the guarantor of continuity” and indeed he is!

The bar is located in Munich’s theatre district at Falkenturm Strasse 9 and remains relatively unchanged since Bill introduced it as a classic American cocktail bar in 1974. He excels as both a charming host and creative Barkeeper having donned many a costume and disguise to introduce what are now famous European cocktails—the Buffalo Bill, Dirty Harry, Kanzler Cocktail, Unpaid Bill, Mizner’s Dream and Coconut Kiss, to name only a few. His work received the prestigious International Kodak Calendar Award. Celebrities imbibing at his cozy Bar include King Karl Gustav and Queen Silvia of Sweden, Arnold Schwarzenegger, German presidents Walter Scheel, and Richard von Weizsäcker, artist Andy Warhol, Jack Hemmingway, F. Scott Fitzgerald and others too numerous to mention. Few tourists visit Munich without having a Pusser’s Pankiller or one of his other classic cocktails.
The mahogany paneled walls are adorned with museum quality nautical décor and photos depicting the history of the Bar, its cast of celebrity guests and generations of awards which the venue has received. Visitors will enjoy the quiet jazz and bar music and those who prefer live piano can find it in the “Downstairs Room” every Thursday through Saturday. Reservations are recommended.

Shaker Shake vigorously and pour into Doppeltumbler.
Garnish with freshly grated nutmeg, lime slice, and sour berries.
Spiral lime together with ice cubes in a highball glass.
